Bellfield Privacy Policy

Last updated 6 September 2026. Applies to the Bellfield Android app (com.orlovdigital.bellfield) and to Bellfield played in a browser at davidvorlov.com/game/.

Bellfield does not collect any data about you. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no trackers, no crash reporting and no third-party services. Bellfield does not send anything you do to us or to anyone else.

What the app stores

Bellfield saves a little information so that a game you leave is still there when you come back. It is written to the app's own private storage on your device:

• Your saved fields: the grid, which squares you have dug or pinned, the elapsed clock, and the moves you have made.
• A list of the fields you have finished, and the final board of each.
• Your settings: sound on or off, and the size of field you last played.

None of this identifies you, and none of it is readable by us or by anyone else. Bellfield itself never transmits any of it.

Android backup

There is one honest exception to "it stays on the device", and it is worth spelling out. The Android app opts in to Android Auto Backup, the backup service built into the operating system. If you have backup turned on for your device, Android periodically copies the app's saved data - your fields and settings - into your own Google account, so that a new or reset phone restores them and your half-played fields are still there.

Bellfield does not do this and cannot: it holds no internet permission. It is Android that performs the copy, the data goes to your Google Drive rather than to us, it does not count against your Drive storage, and we have no access to it at any point. You can turn it off for Bellfield, or entirely, in your device's Settings → Google → Backup. Restoring or deleting that backup is handled by Android, not by us.

What the app does not do

• The Android app is not granted the INTERNET permission. It is technically incapable of making a network connection. (The Android backup described above is carried out by the operating system, not by the app.)
• It does not read your contacts, files, photos, location, camera, microphone, calendar, or the list of apps you have installed.
• It does not use an advertising ID, and it does not show advertising.
• It contains no third-party SDKs, so no third party receives anything either.
• The only permission it holds is VIBRATE, used for the small haptic tap when you dig a square.

Children

Bellfield is suitable for all ages and is not directed specifically at children. Because it collects no data at all, it collects no data from children either.

Removing your data

Everything Bellfield saves is on your device and under your control. "Clear everything", in the app's How to play sheet, erases all of it at once. Uninstalling the app removes it from the phone as well; if you have Android backup switched on, clear the app's backup in your device's backup settings to remove the copy held in your own Google account. In a browser, clearing the site data for davidvorlov.com has the same effect. There is nothing held anywhere else for us to delete on your behalf.

Playing in a browser

Bellfield is also playable at davidvorlov.com/game/. The game itself behaves the same way there and stores everything locally. The web host serving that page keeps ordinary server access logs, as any web server does; those logs are not used to build any profile of you and are not connected to your play.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this same address with a new date at the top.
